Why Blame the Victim?

Why is one of the first things asked in cases of sexual harassment or assault is “what were you wearing?” or “had you been drinking?” That does not make it acceptable for someone touching you when you don’t want to be touched. Why does it seem like they try to find a reason to help out the one who assaulted the person? Maybe more people would be willing to step up and talk about what happened to them if they weren’t ridiculed for every small thing they did that in no way gives another reason to assault them.

  1. I completely agree with this. Sexual assault is a terrible crime that no one should have to be a victim of. But I also think that whoever is being accused of committing such a crime is still innocent until proven guilty.
