To Control or Not?

I personally believe there should be more control when it comes to guns. It does not seem right that someone could walk into a store and get a gun in five minutes. Why isn’t there a more thought through process of background checks? I understand that there is an amendment that states your right to bear arms, but can you trust everyone? People want to say that guns don’t kill people, because they are inanimate objects. That makes sense, but the same people who say that believe guns will save you. That contradicts the first statement. In the end, its the person that does the killing and saving. You don’t know everyone’s minds, so why would you trust them without the background check? In the light of the recent school shootings, there is the debate to put guns in schools. To me, that makes no sense. What if the teacher in possession of the weapon decides to do something drastic? Or what if a student gets a hold of it and accidentally or intentionally sets it off. The death count could be worse then it has been. Why not metal detectors? Obviously, there are ways to get around it, but to keep people safe you got to do what you got to do. I’m interested in anyone who has another opinion and I am willing to listen if you wish to have a civil conversation about it.

  1. I personally disagree. I know from experience that it does not take five minutes to buy a gun. It depends, of course, on what you buy, but it took about 30 minutes when I accompanied an adult when they bought one. It took this long because a background check was being run on the person buying the gun. I would be curious to know if you have a statistic to prove that you can buy a gun in 5 minutes, but I do not think that it is possible. I also believe that it is important to remember that lives are also saved by guns as well. Here is a link to an that explains the importance of guns, how many lives are usually saved by guns, and some information about background checks on those that buy them.

  2. I appreciate that this is a safe space where people can share their opinions without getting torn down about them! I get it if people disagree, but let’s make sure that we do it respectfully. I like how you, Codedbelles, are able to, politely, add your opinion of the topics you choose.
Anyone who feels like you can not do so, I have politely added a link to where you can learn how to express your opinion.
